Mindset is, where your mind is set in a nutshell. Our perception, which is the way we subjectively see the world, is a part of the programming technology that our Creator built into our brain. There is an epidemic called, narcissism that is limiting human creativity and potential and I’ll add that narcissism is not what you think it is.
It’s self-programmed without our awareness at times, since our brain is responding to where we put our focus and attention. The most succinct definition of narcissism would be in truth:
Comparing yourself to someone else, is like comparing apples to oranges. We can continue to unconsciously program our mind, or we can learn how to sit in our own drivers seat and take back the steering wheel from mindless distractions on purpose. Self here, by the way, is the ego self which is a construct we make with our brain. In other words, it is the self-created narrative of who you think you are.
This self-consciousness has two-polar extremes:
- Superiority complex attempt to compare in a way that elevates self over others
- Inferiority complex attempt to compare in a way that deflates self under others
Both of these mindsets are harmful to your creative potential because they are distracting your energy and focus for one thing. Instead of getting on with your life and noticing opportunities or allowing space in your mind for new innovative ideas, you are busy judging and comparing yourself to the next person. In both forms of narcissism, the center of focus is self and then the focus of attention moves to comparing to the next person based upon all kinds of external things. Comparisons such as:
