Empowering Movies for Our Times: Avatar and Sherlock?

EmpowermentEmpowerment is about being able to go from where you are to where you want to be and to live from a place of abundance. Abundance for me refers to health, wealth and relationships.

We are living through turbulent and changing times, so coming from a place of empowerment is to be able to navigate change with awareness and conscious choice, instead of feeling like a victim. I went to see two movies last week that had a lot of current science, aspects of the mystical or spiritual and cultural/economic messages.

Avatar I thought was so good, I’m planning on seeing it again on IMAX with 3-D. What was so great about blue people and an outer space fiction movie? How does this relate to everyday life? I can’t cover everything, but here are the highlights.

Quantum physics has shown that everything is energy. Yes everything. Now there is debate over how our consciousness interacts with this energy, or for that matter, what consciousness is in the first place.

I don’t want to get too specific with the details of the movie, as I don’t want to spoil it for people. In the movie, there is reference to the connection of all of life, how we are one with nature and all of life, yet we are able to function as individuals. It also referred to how science, when it only comes from a place of intellect and holds a mechanistic viewpoint of life, just how fear-based and cruel it can be.

Then there were also spiritual references to the energy field, which some quantum physicists call the “Divine Matrix”. This is the energy that permeates all of life. Then there was Sherlock Holmes and his ability to visualize and “see” future events. There is science that documents all types of “paranormal” phenomenon.

Folks, this is not sci-fi or spooky.

It’s just that you don’t know what you don’t know and when we start to be shown that there is more to life than “meets the eye” we become fearful. I see these movies as empowering and relevant to our times because, they are introducing the general public to much deeper depths than the business as usual movies and TV shows.

This is real; we only use 10% of our mind/brain. When we start to realize that we can managing our minds/brains with intentions, heal the fear in our bodies and minds, and start to become more open to what is possible in an empowering way, we can change our own lives for the better.

What are you focusing on, fear or hope/faith for a better tomorrow? If you are not open minded, how do you think you will ever find better answers? Are you asking questions based in fear (what am I gonna do?) or are your questions empowering (How can I heal my fears and grow into my potential?)?

The choice is always yours, whether you know it consciously or not. Here’s a hint: You will continue to get the same results if you keep doing the same things, the same way, with the same belief system. Empowerment has never been easier than NOW.

Liked your comments about Avatar. I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I do intend to do so. Have you seen the commentary about the movie on Jack & Jill Politics?

  3. Valencia Ray MD says:

Hi Jackie, I wrote this really long thoughtful reply and it was not saved and is now deleted! Anyway, I saw the Jack and Jill post and I’m not sure where it is coming from or going. That’s why I say reality is relative. Perception rules. What you look for you can find. I thought it was a great movie with a powerful message for our times. I”m going back this weekend to see it at the IMAX in 3D. Let me know what you think.

Star Wars and Star Trek are great movies. I really like them both also.

  11. During the film, I was momentarily messed up by most of the same things that were been discussed here, overall, I forgot them as my enjoyment continued. Even the over zealous depiction of capitalism or the over bearing were accepted as being a critical part of the film. But there one technical thing that (oddly enough, I guess) irked me. I had no way to go back and view it after, but I’m pretty sure that when the Colonel was killed, he took his hands off the robot controls, trying to remove the arrow/bolt. Yet, with the Colonel’s death, the robot TOPPLED OVER! I would have expected such a machine just to simply stop moving and stand there.

  28. Well, I just saw Avatar this morning, one of the press premieres which are running on these days. My opinion: you’ve seen this story a hundred times, but never like this. Finally 3D is what it’s supposed to be, an instrument at the service of the movie. You’ll enjoy the visual experience, no doubt. As for the story, some of the “inspirations” are so huge and so obvious that mentioning two or three of them would REALLY ruin the movie for you, and I’m not willing to do that. Lots of mysticism and ecology, if you like that stuff. If you’re 15 or so, you’ll have a great time thinking that it’s the first time somebody makes something like this. If you’re an experienced movie watcher, better leave your skepticism at the door, bring lots of pop corn and enjoy with the usual action-flick-with-moral-and-loads-of-clichés.

  29. Valencia Ray MD says:

Thanks for you interesting comments! I saw a whole lot of different angles in the movie. I loved it.
